Enron gambled on copper. how many times have you seen a great stock with the perfect fundamentals drop and one that was a dog go up. It's just like throwing the dice.

Come to thin of it, shouldn't people that go to Vegas and gamble incorporatee and then that way they can get in on the bailout. Ha.

PostHeaderIcon How many book pages would be in an A4? details included. Also, judge my writing.?

so this is 2 questions in one, it saves points and is easier to look at the answers.

1. how many book pages is equivalent to one A4 sheet of paper, font size 12, mostly correct grammar concerning sentences, paragraphs and dialogue.
On one page the average word count is 600 – 700.
All up I have 12056 words and im not finishing soon.
Completed pages, I have a total of 22.

2. could you please judge this piece of writing for me? I’m not sure if I should include it in my book because to me its not as good as some stuff ive wrote. My book is a young adult fiction novel so I doubt they would pick on it. The situation in this piece is three young kids, Aaron 15, Pippa 12, Alyssa 10, go to the supermarket to get supplies to stock up and feed their survivors group. My novel is set in a post apocalyptic world were people were infected by an airborne virus. The people who are left are only 15 and under because they weren’t born when the virus was released, it dissolved within a day and they didn’t inhale it. Symptoms came out after 15 years and globally everyone turned into infected mutants with dry cracked skin, festering flesh and inhuman abilities. So but just have a read and tell me what you thoughts are.

“Do you feel that?” Alyssa whispered, barley audible. Pippa immediately stopped her internal whining an concentrated, opening up to her senses. Instantly a wave of anxiety went through her, she shivered, causing the hairs on the back of her neck to stand up. she looked up, noticing the rattling of the chains had stopped. Aaron was staring at the floor, expressionless, obvious that he had sensed it too. “Its too quiet” whispered Alyssa. she looked up at Pippa, her lips slightly parted, then turned around. Pippa followed her gaze.
The building’s.
Standing tall and lonely behind them. Pippa scanned the windows, searching for any signs of life, then looked left and right at the empty streets. Something was out there.
“Were being watched” said Aaron, a touch of disbelief in his tone.
“That’s not possible. There’s nobody left”
“Liss. Go inside” Alyssa obeyed, following Aaron. Walking backwards, Pippa gave the buildings a final once over, she took her gun out of the back of her jeans, chambering a bullet.

And this second one that I really don’t like and want to improve somehow.

Rhianna Runali pedaled at a slow, steady pace. The roads were becoming familiar, soon she would hit her old neighborhood which was formally dubbed the arm pit of Marshal city. Bike riding, she found out not long ago, was a great deal of fun. The air she breathed smelt pure, the sounds of nature in a usually busy place overrun with man made sounds, eventually became the norm, soothing even the hardest soul.
The closer she got to home the more she remembered of the old world, riding past things that were so familiar yet so foreign. Obscene graffiti, sprayed expertly by Rhianna herself, onto the side wall of an Asian shop, the tag of her old crew clearly stood out among the rest, dominating the small space that mr. Wong painted over frequently. No matter how many times he re-painted it, it was a plain white wall in the Ghetto‘s of Rowland. Now there was nobody to repaint it, Rhianna’s crew tag would forever stay, a mural for all her lost friends. she liked that idea.
Rhianna pedaled on, the breeze blowing her tight curls of hair out of her face, it felt great to have that feeling again. before the disaster, Rhianna had long brown hair with curls to the extreme, but within 3 months her hair became matted and she grew tired of brushing, so out came the scissors. she now sported a sexy female fro that she’d grown to love, it added character to her oval face and bounced when she walked.

Thanks in advance.

PostHeaderIcon How much money is needed to buy a stock?(wall street, dow jones etc.)?

A reasonable amount to invest is about £1000, share prices vary widely, the lowest possible share price in the uk is 1 32nd of a penny, the highest single share was about £10,000 last I knew.
Your "typical" ftse100 company might trade for between £2.50 ans £7.50 very roughly speaking.
On top of the share price you will need to pay commission and stamp duty, in the UK commission is normaly around £12.50 per trade and stamp duty is 0.5% of purchase price.

PostHeaderIcon Why has Warren Buffett never split the stock of Bershire Hathaway?

Since it's beginnings in the 1950's, the stock has never been split like all the others have, so it's today worth almost one hundred and ten thousand dollars a share.

Should this be a model by which all companies should follow?

After all, the more they split, the more we lose sight of what they are trying to put over on the gullible public.

He wants to keep the low money people out. It works too. He gets only the serious type of investor he wants.

dont know the reason exactly but just want to add that if you think the "A" shares are expensive, then you can always buy the "B" shares…..theyre $3600 each.

also, google has never split its stock either….hopefully they'll go to $100K in 20 years too :)

Gullible,, put over on?? what are you talking about?

Warren buffet is the controlling person of Berkshire Hathaway
He doesn't have to split it if he doesn't want to.

If he was to split the stock, there would be millions of little shareholders that all need dividend cheques to them, and annual general meeting and financial statements.

This is expensive, as It would require a lot more staff in the company as well to handle the additional shareholders.

But you can buy a different stock that tracks the Bershire-Hathaway stock at lower cost, , it works like a index fund on Berkshire hathaway, but I can't remember the name

Why has Warren Buffett never split the stock of Bershire Hathaway?

The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life
There are many books out on Warren Buffett but this is the first authorized biography. as someone who has read most of what is publicly available on the Oracle of Omaha, I pre-ordered the book on Amazon as soon as I found out about it and started reading it as soon as I received it. The focus of the other books is mostly on Buffett’s stock picking skill; this book delves deeper into the formative experiences and his drive, focus and competitiveness that earned him the largest fortune of the modern era not tied to a particular industry. Other books have chronicled his transition from a pure Graham type investor to incorporating more Phil Fisher growth type approach to investing. as this book makes clear, there is more, a lot more to the Buffett magic than just stock picking. a lot of his value add is from working through difficult situations post-acquisition; and from “Carnegizing” management that is making good choices; you don’t get this influence over the operations of companies without ownership control. Buffet prides himself on being able to make quick decisions on acquisitions but as the book makes clear, he has no crystal ball to avoid nasty surprises like the rest of us. This is well documented in the history of his acquisitions – Blue Chip Stamp (drop in consumer interest), Buffalo News (labor unrest), Berkshire Hathaway (foreign competition in textiles), Coca Cola
(management succession), Salomon Bros. (culture/compensation), General re (off balance sheet derivatives). Buffett makes it through decades of challenges with his reputation for basic honesty and fair dealing intact. Particularly exceptional is his willingness, when Salomon was under fire for fixing Treasury auctions, was to step in as chairman and appear before prosecutors without attorneys present and to forgo accepted legal defenses in resolving the matter.
The book details Buffett’s “elephant bumping” (consorting with celebrities of various types) at great length; too much for my preference but probably will contribute to the commercial appeal of the book. it is also a cautionary tale of the corrosive effect of great wealth on family relationships.
