World's Billionaires 2010
Carlos Slim Helu takes no. 1 spot on Forbes World's Billionaires list as a record 164 10-figure titans return to the ranking amid the global economic recovery.
Riding surging prices of his various telecom holdings, including giant mobile outfit America Movil (AMX), Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim Helu has beaten out Americans bill Gates and Warren Buffett to become the wealthiest person on earth and nab the top spot on the 2010 Forbes list of the World's Billionaires.
Slim's fortune has swelled to an estimated $53.5 billion, up $18.5 billion in 12 months. Shares of America Movil, of which Slim owns a $23 billion stake, were up 35% in a year.
NO, this actually proves that people can make it in mexico and have no right to come here and expect work. so what does this person with all his riches do for his country and people. nothing huh. if so, why would 18 million illegal mexicans be coming here. Americans could care less who has more riches. but it is sad that someone has this much money and doesn't help his own country. must be much money in corruption.
drug cartels contribute to alot of thing dude…..or dont you get that?
besides, mexicans need telecommunications to support their illegal activities like people smuggling, drug smuggling, they use phones to tell the others where to find the "free" stuff and other things like money transfers via the internet—-telecommunications are big business right now—so I am not impressed—if this dude has so much money—why is mexico still the crap pile it is?
yep! people think that all of Mexico and their people are what you hear about from those small border towns. There's a lot of successful people in Mexico, and many that come her follow those dreams to succeed to. but sadly, the media only talks about the corruption going on there.
NO. They are not threat to US. though if US ppl stays lazy and getting FAT all the time by eating junks and do not work at all and think GOVT should do this and that, it will be threat itself not some other country.
Maybe if he spread that money around to the poor and working class, but oh no then Mexico would not be encouraging the poor to sneak across the border. then the Carlos Slim Helu's would not be so wealthy.
Wow im glad someone down in MEXICO is getting rich off of all your corruption and greed . thats great.
Carlos Slim has shown that you can make money in Mexico if you are willing to work. Doesn't he prove that Mexicans are too lazy to do real work? Why does a mexican need to be in America when there is the opportunity in Mexico if you are willing to work hard.
What people mean is that the 13 million illegal immigrants in the country consist of a high risk to the local population.
The only things we really know about this large number of people is that they are in the USA illegally. since they already broke the law to enter the USA the chances that large numbers of them have committed crimes in mexico is likely.
Every illegal immigrant who enters the USA has had no background check. Jose might seem nice but how can you be 100% sure that he isn't wanted for murder in Mexico? you can't. even if 10% of all illegal immigrants are wanted for serious crime in their own country that makes 1.3 Million serious criminals hiding in the USA. Would you be happy if one of these people lived down your street?

The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life
There are many books out on Warren Buffett but this is the first authorized biography. as someone who has read most of what is publicly available on the Oracle of Omaha, I pre-ordered the book on Amazon as soon as I found out about it and started reading it as soon as I received it. The focus of the other books is mostly on Buffett’s stock picking skill; this book delves deeper into the formative experiences and his drive, focus and competitiveness that earned him the largest fortune of the modern era not tied to a particular industry. Other books have chronicled his transition from a pure Graham type investor to incorporating more Phil Fisher growth type approach to investing. as this book makes clear, there is more, a lot more to the Buffett magic than just stock picking. a lot of his value add is from working through difficult situations post-acquisition; and from “Carnegizing” management that is making good choices; you don’t get this influence over the operations of companies without ownership control. Buffet prides himself on being able to make quick decisions on acquisitions but as the book makes clear, he has no crystal ball to avoid nasty surprises like the rest of us. This is well documented in the history of his acquisitions – Blue Chip Stamp (drop in consumer interest), Buffalo News (labor unrest), Berkshire Hathaway (foreign competition in textiles), Coca Cola
(management succession), Salomon Bros. (culture/compensation), General re (off balance sheet derivatives). Buffett makes it through decades of challenges with his reputation for basic honesty and fair dealing intact. Particularly exceptional is his willingness, when Salomon was under fire for fixing Treasury auctions, was to step in as chairman and appear before prosecutors without attorneys present and to forgo accepted legal defenses in resolving the matter.
The book details Buffett’s “elephant bumping” (consorting with celebrities of various types) at great length; too much for my preference but probably will contribute to the commercial appeal of the book. it is also a cautionary tale of the corrosive effect of great wealth on family relationships.
